Countries of the Sahel are some of the poorest but fertility rates are the highest in the world, an average of 5.6 births per woman in the Sahel countries (up to 7 in Niger) compared to 2.2 in the developed world. Now, what has this got to do with logistics I hear you asking?

Well, not much today but by the end of this century the population of Africa will account for 37% of the global population, up from 19% today. Yes, today the Sahel lacks seriously of infrastructures to sustain a rapid population growth, but this cannot be ignored. African youth is an unstoppable force and something will have to give one way or another if nothing is done. It is up to their respective government and the international community to have the courage and the vision to develop the right infrastructures. Populations are very resilient, they have to be, and development can be achieved a lot quicker than you might think.
