Corridor Dakar – Bamako in serious need of improvements

Corridor Dakar Bamako in serious need of improvements - BAC
With 80% of Mali’s imports passing through Dakar, you’d expect a smooth road. The reality? Damaged infrastructure and rising costs are pushing businesses to seek alternatives. Learn how this could impact your supply chain.

When you consider that approximately 80% of imports to Mali transit by road via the port of Dakar in Senegal, you could be forgiven to picture the only road linking these two countries as a flowing highway capable of accommodating thousands of trucks 24/7.

Currently there are long sections of this road that are very dangerous, to the point where some transport companies no longer use it, especially during the rainy season. As a result, we have noticed an increasing number of our clients requesting to use alternative ports because of the state of this road. They do not want to risk receiving their goods damaged, even if it costs them more!

This is a good example that a lack of investments in infrastructure can easily affect the economic development of a nation. Without the right infrastructures, no development is possible.
